What Do The Rockets Need? A Shooter...
By Blake Atkins
HOUSTON -- A season ago, 2006-07, Houston was the 5th best three point shooting team at 37%. In 2007-08, it was a completely different story. As the Rockets shot 34%, which was good for 26th in the league.
As a result, the opponent could just lock down on McGrady and Yao and let the other Rockets try to beat them from the outside. Which resulted in Houston's two all stars with a three point decrease in points per game.
As of now, the Rockets have three pretty respectable three point shooters, which are Steve Novak, Shane Battier and Luther Head. Shane and Luther both had off year in 2007-08 going from shooting in the 40% to mid 30%. Novak shot a career high 48% from three in his young career, but he didn't get the consistent minutes to help the team game after game.
If Rick Adelman doesn't decide to add Novak in his regular rotation and Battier and Luther doesn't fix there shooting woes. Then the Rockets desperately needs to make a trade. Some names that come to mind are Mike Miller, Jason Kapono, Kyle Korver, James Jones, and Matt Carroll.
Korver might be pretty tough to get considering how great Utah played after they acquired him. In order to get Mike Miller we would have to give up some picks and expiring contracts. We would have to give up quite a bit to get Kapono since he's overpaid and would be risking taking on such a contract, but could you imagine this in the line up next season...
