My 2008 Offseason Plan (Ver 1.0)
By Blake Atkins
HOUSTON -- Coming into this offseason, the Rockets have certain needs. Those needs are shooting, driving, and postseason rebounding. This is what I propose we do...
Trade Bobby Jackson (expiring contract), Luther Head, & our 2008 (25th) draft pick to the Memphis Grizzlies for Mike Miller.
Sign Bonzi Wells with our MLE, which is roughly around 5.6 million dollars.
Miller would provide the "shooting" need. He is a career 40% three point shooter and 46% from the overall floor. He's also coming off one of his best season of his career averaging 16.4 PPG on 50% field goal shooting (43% from beyond the arc).
If we were to acquire Miller, he would take advantage of McGrady and Yao the most out of everyone. He would get much better looks with McGrady creating for him then Rudy Gay or Mike Conley every could for him in Memphis, where he still shot an outstanding percentage. This deal would probably put Houston over the top, and make them a serious contender in the West.
Bonzi would provide the "driving" and "postseason rebounding" need. When Wells is healthy, he attacks the rim relentlessly. Last season, McGrady was really the only guy who could beat there guy and scored at the rim consistently. Adding Bonzi would defiantly help in taking some of that pressure off McGrady. Also, wouldn't it of been nice if we had Bonzi to get some of those rebounds against Utah in the last two playoffs?
If these two deals could happen, the Rockets could possibly bring the Larry O'Brian Trophy home next June.
Would this trade give us a 3rd scorer?
